Deborah
Stone
Deborah
Stone, Senior Associate with
Emersus Consulting, has 19 years of Human Resources experience
working with a broad spectrum of companies, government agencies and
non-profit entities. Such organizations include eBay, Fidelity
Investments, AT&T Wireless, the State of Utah, Big Brothers Big
Sisters of Utah, and A.E. Roberts Company.
One
sector in which Deb
has special expertise includes law firms. She has a keen
understanding of how to help highly trained, driven and articulate
professionals deal with the inherent stress of the profession, and
function relatively smoothly and productively. Prior to working with
Emersus Consulting, Deb served in human resources capacities for Ropes
& Gray in Washington,
D.C. and Snow Christensen
& Martineau and
Holme, Roberts
& Owen in Salt Lake City.
In
addition to Debbie's
work with law firms, she is an expert on applied employment law. She
has trained and consulted with executives from a variety of
organizations on human resource policy, procedure and program
development to aid them in creating safe, respectful and legally sound
workplaces. In addition to her training related to human resource
policy, she has designed and facilitated training on a variety of
topics, some which include: Successful
Conflict Management, Dealing with Upset Customers, Creating Effective
(and Legal) Job Descriptions, Cultural
Competency at Work, and The
Art and Science of Evaluating Performance.
She has also developed and presented training on many
compliance-related topics such as COBRA, FMLA, Section 125 plans,
HIPAA, and workers compensation.
Deb
holds a Bachelor's
degree in Philosophy and in History, graduating magna cum laude from
George Mason University in Virginia in 1986.
Debbie
is an active
member of the Society for Human
Resource Management, having
served as a
President of the Salt Lake City Chapter. She continues to serve the
organization as part-time Executive Director, providing strategic
direction to the chapter. Deb is also a member of the American Society
for Training and Development
(ASTD). She also keenly supports the work
of Big
Brothers Big Sisters of Utah
as a former Board member.
Debbie
is interested in
helping companies develop an engaged and skilled workforce. She
approaches her work as an evolutionary process best accomplished by
giving motivated people the direction, the tools and the support to
achieve their goals. She believes that Management's challenge is to
help employees do their best work by focusing on improving results
without creating bureaucratic processes and structures.
Personal Interests…
For fun and stress
reduction, Debbie is an avid (and, occasionally, competitive) runner.
In her next life she aspires to play banjo in a bluegrass band.
