Paul
Diegel
Paul Diegel brings 20 years of experience in developing products and technical
teams to Emersus Consulting.
He provides consultation in developing technical teams, transitioning
from technical to management roles, solving problems, integrating
suppliers, subcontractors, and collaborators, managing projects, and
developing products.
Mr.
Diegel has
previously held positions in research & development, manufacturing,
marketing, and project management with Hercules
Aerospace, the University of Utah Institute for Biomedical Engineering,
W.L. Gore and Associates, Sorenson Critical Care, MedQuest Products and BioMicro.
With a focus on medical devices, he has successfully directed several
artificial heart development projects incorporating multiple foreign
and domestic partners and a diverse team of researchers and
engineers. He has been involved in the management of 5
start-up businesses and has prepared proposals resulting in $10.2M in
federal grant and venture capital funding.
The
holder of 6 patents, Mr. Diegel provides unique insight to the
human capital facet of successful research and development.
He has successfully integrated
project teams made of a wide
range of individuals, addressing cultural, gender, educational, and
geographical differences to create
a common set of values and objectives.
He has taught engineers and researchers how to identify and integrate
business and technical objectives and to translate those into action
plans incorporating milestones, budgets, and pass/fail criteria.
Mr.
Diegel holds a B.S.
degree in Mechanical Engineering from Oregon State University and a
M.S. degree from the University of Utah in Bioengineering. He
has completed numerous continuing education courses in communication
skills, marketing, accounting, business law, statistical techniques,
and project and personnel management.
Personal Interests…
Paul is an avid road and mountain biker, back country skier and river runner. He and his wife, Janette, spend as much time as possible backpacking and exploring remote areas of the west. Paul serves on the Board of Directors of the Friends of the Utah Avalanche Forecast Center and is a volunteer at KRCL the local community radio station. Paul is an avid reader; and one of his favorites is Desert Solitaire by Edward Abby.
